- Genre: Platforming
- Spoiler Free Review: Yes.
- Time Played: ~1 Hour
- Too Short/Long: It's pretty short, but I guess for a game gear game it's not bad.
- Did I cry: No.
- Soundtrack: It's alright.
- Why I played: I was just being wishy washy on what to play and was checking out the Sonic Origins collection.
- Jank: It's solid. I feel like some aspects of the controls are janky though. The delay in jumping/not jumping when I clearly hit the button sometimes, and the knockback is way too much.
- Difficulty: It's not the easiest game, and far from the easiest Sonic game.
- Pleased/Disappointed: I'm pretty pleased. I wasn't necessarily going to run through the whole game, but it was a little bit of a nostalgia trip.
- Recommend to others: Sonic Chaos is pretty good for a Sonic game made for the Game Gear. I wouldn't go out of my way to tell people they should play it, but if they have the Sonic Origins collection, maybe give it a try.
Sonic Chaos was maybe one of my favorite Sonic games as a little kid. I didn't have a Genesis until after Nintendo 64 and PlayStation. My cousin had one, and I was frequently at my Aunt's, so I got to play it a bit here and there, but it's not the same as something you have nearly limitless access to. I did have a Sega Game Gear, and Sonic Chaos might have been the game I played the most on it.
It has a couple little frustrating aspects as mentioned above, but I think it's mostly pretty solid and holds up. Not like early Sonic games were super long, but yeah this one may be a bit more bite sized, appropriately so for the platform.
